So normally our lives are pretty uneventful, but recently we've been super busy. Pat's always busy, so I guess it's really my schedule that has seen the changes lately. I took a permanent subbing position at a school five minutes away and that is awesome because I can get a letter from the principal which will allow me to skip an entire semester long clinical or whatever it's called. The kids in the class are doing everything they can to test my patience and my willpower but I think that if I can survive this, (this being the crazy kids and my four classes I'm taking for my master's!) I can teach anybody. One little girl actually told me today that she didn't do very well in class when their old teacher was there but she's getting better with me. That made me SOOO HAPPY!!! I get sweet letters and drawings from them all the time, but they still drive me crazy almost every day. I really have seen a lot of improvement from them in the last month and half I've been there. Spring Break was difficult because they have two weeks off! They come back and it's like starting all over again! Anyway, it's a third grade class and I really am having a lot of fun even though some of them make me sad because of how little they care about their grades. Some of them are so disrespectful to themselves, others, and just stuff. But I will tell you that the floor in that classroom is spotless when they leave, they push in their chairs, clean off the tops of their desks, and they even say yes ma'am to me now! They're also starting to remember that they shouldn't say "I don't have nothing" or "I didn't do nothing" because I'll hear someone say it and another one of the kids will correct them and that makes me so happy. I mean these kids are WILD...the whole school knows about them. The teacher I'm subbing for had to take medical leave because of the stress from this group of kids. It's just crazy, but like I said, I have seen tons of improvement in their behavior. Not all of them, but most.
Pat's getting ready to leave after the summer is over, I'll be moving back home to finish my internship and everything and I'm really excited about going back because I miss it. I miss nice people who are legal citizens and this is going to sound crazy, but I miss the humidity. You know when you miss that...it's time to come home! Pat's deployment should only be about five months because the unit leaving before him has already been extended, and rather than extending everyone, they're just cutting one short. He lucked out. (Thank goodness!) So that's about it for us, I hope everyone is doing well.
