So Pat has been on his first deployment for a week now and I just wanted to catch everyone up on how it is going, in case you haven't heard much from him.
He has a lot to keep him busy so his days are going by quickly. He's signed up to become SCUBA certified, he is learning Pashtu (the language they speak if Afghanistan), he is responsible for the armory on his ship and he's also giving classes every so often.
They're enjoying themselves when they can with cookouts and group movie nights. It's beginning to sound like I'm talking about a child who is in Cub Scouts or something, but I'm glad it's that kind of deployment. :)
Just so you know - he can receive attachments if you want to send him pictures that you think would make him feel like he isn't so far away from home. They just got a computer in their room, too - so he's pretty good about checking his emails, though his replies are always very short as he is so busy working out all the time...haha.
I'm doing very well with him not here and I have a lot going on at home and at work that will keep me busy and distracted from the fact that he's even gone! I'm coming home for Thanksgiving and Christmas and I'm really really really looking forward to it!!

Looks good - we're excited about the holidays as well! Be safe, both of you! Love Mom
I really glad you're finding ways to stay "distracted" while Pat's away, I know how incredibly focused you are. Perhaps I'll send you a box of shiny rocks in case you ever run out of distractions. Kidding, of course. I'm thrilled that you're coming for the holidays and I know we're going to have a blast (probably resulting in some funny pictures to send Pat). Glad you both are doing well. Love you, Manda
