Relentless For Eli

Okay, some of you may have been seeing stuff on Facebook for this campaign, and others may have just heard me talking about it. This is all about our friend's son, Eli Roe. He was diagnosed with leukemia in 2009 when he was only 2. He is going through a three year treatment, which will be completed this summer, and his prognosis is good. Johnna Watson is one of three amazing women I met at a CrossFit gym's bootcamp two summers ago. I am so grateful that I was up for doing that bootcamp. I would have maybe one friend here in Charlotte otherwise!! She is "running for" Woman of the Year with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and it's all for Eli. Basically, it's a fundraiser on steroids. We are trying to raise more money than any other candidate from now (we actually started February 23rd) till May 5th.

This is an excerpt from a local paper, the Huntersville Herald:

“Every person diagnosed with blood cancer is someone’s precious child, parent, relative or friend,” Watson said. “The funds raised for blood cancer research and patient services are funds raised for our friends and our family.”

Still, she said, though she’s campaigning to be Woman of the Year, she hopes people will see that anyone can make a difference.

“I am an ordinary person with an ordinary life who has been given this extraordinary challenge,” Watson said. “Having a healthy family is a blessing I can no longer take for granted.”

I feel the same way, I am donating my time and money to help this campaign and I'm hoping you all can do the same. If you could please just share this link with as many people as you can, it could make a HUGE difference. That's easy enough, right?

On the website you can learn more about Eli and his family from a short video. He is such a cutie, and his mom, Anne, is always smiling. And not like a creepy, she-must-be-on-something smile, but a truly grateful and optimistic smile. She always asks everyone how they are doing and how their kids are doing and never complains or feels sorry for herself. I am constantly in awe of her outlook and strength. Please visit this site, watch the video, and then see if you can spare your pizza night, lunch out, or morning Starbucks and put it toward something that will help save lives.

And if you're on Facebook, and especially if you're one of my friends on Facebook, and you haven't LIKED the Relentless For Eli Facebook page yet, what the hell are you doing?? Just kidding, but seriously, it's clicking a freakin button. How lazy are you? Just kidding. But seriously - LIKE IT. Dammit. Thanks!! Love you!! Smiley faces!!!
