oh these boys...

I feel like I say the same things every time I write on here. But seriously, I CANNOT BELIEVE how well Sawyer and Greyson play together, how quickly Greyson is catching up, and what a good big brother and little boy Sawyer has become. He's still not really talking, but we still manage to communicate very well. It's crazy. That's probably why he feels no need to say real words. I'm probably hindering him, which is sad...but we are working on it! Greyson is crawling all over the place, very quickly. He is also starting to stand up (while holding on to something) a lot, and he can totally hold his own when Sawyer decides it's time to rough house. Sometimes, even Greyson starts it! They're so good - a few mornings a week, my friend Angie and I go for a run, so I'm pushing them both in the stroller, and they behave the whole time! Sawyer has his little sippy cup and he's good to go, and Greyson usually sleeps for most of it. I'll sometimes pack some snacks for Sawyer that Greyson can also eat, and if I tell him to share them with his brother, he hands some to Greyson! I love it. He's really good at sharing, I just have to remind him sometimes. Other times, he'll be eating something and he'll get down from his chair and take some to Greyson, whether he's in the high chair or playing on the floor. He will even find Greyson's socks or a toy he had, and take whatever it was back to Greyson. He knows so many letters now, probably over half of the alphabet, easily. He knows every color (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple...not quite magenta or chartreuse, but come on, he's not even two yet). He also knows most of the standard shapes, like circle, square, triangle, star, and even octagon! He'll point at things as we drive through the neighborhood or while we're on a walk, like the stop signs. I'll ask him if he sees an octagon anywhere and you can tell he sits up and starts looking for a stop sign. He even pointed to the little bit of light that was left in the sky last night when we went for a walk after dinner when I asked him where the sun was. I think he's pretty smart.
I've set up a "club house" in the corner of the family room. It's the huge cardboard box that the new grill came in. I cut a little circle window out of the side and a "sky light" in the top so it's not dark and scary in there, and they both love it. Before the Auburn game on Saturday, I went to buy some fabric, and I came back to find Sawyer lying on his back in the "club house" watching Elmo, and Pat standing in the middle of the room waiting for the game that was on before ours to end, so that they would start airing the Auburn game. But yeah, Pat had hooked up the portable DVD player and set it on top of the box so the screen was laying flat against the "sky light". Oh my gosh. The kid had a tv installed in the ceiling.
On Sunday morning, Pat took Sawyer to see Thomas the Tank Engine at the NC Transportation Museum in Spencer, NC. They got to go for a 25 minute ride on Thomas and Sawyer even got a certificate saying he's a junior conductor, and Mr. Topham Hatt even "signed" it!! I really wanted to go just to take pictures of the two of them and to see how excited Sawyer was to see Thomas, but more than that, I wanted them to get to hang out with each other. So, I'll take what I can get as far as pictures go. He's just recently gotten in to Thomas. It's honestly pretty boring but that is perfect before nap time and to have on in the background while he's eating lunch and I'm trying to feed Greyson a bottle before he takes his nap, too. They BOTH nap at 1:00 (most days)!! It is amazing how much I can squeeze in to that hour and a half. Today, it's laundry and the blog, which doesn't sound like much, but I can't sit on the computer for any length of time while they're awake. And even if they let me, I wouldn't do it. So anyway - at the end of each episode, they show Thomas with a night cap on and it's dark and he's going to bed. So Sawyer blows him a kiss (mmmmmaaa!) and then we wash our hands and face from lunch and go upstairs for a nap. It's so easy. Greyson is getting much better about going to sleep, too. I have his room almost completely black-ed out, and he really likes the sleep sheep that Pat's dad got for Sawyer like two years ago...but a whole different setting/sound than Sawyer liked, of course. Sawyer liked the "babbling brook" sound and Greyson likes the "whale song" sound. I think the whales sound weird, but if it works, I'm down. At night for bed time, I read him a book and he gets a bottle and then a paci and a few minutes in the rocking chair, and then I lay him down and he with either squirm and kick till he passes out or I'll have to stand there with him so he can stare at me while he falls asleep to the sleep sheep sounds. It's the whole routine that they have to just get accustomed to. Now, when I sit down with him and open up the same book I read to him every night, he smiles and gets all excited and tries to grab the pictures of the moon and the owl and everything. It's so much like Sawyer. I sometimes laugh about how different they are, but they are actually pretty similar in a lot of ways, too. Oh Greyson also has two teeth on the bottom and he's probably about ready to get a couple more, but it'll be the two top ones and those seem to take forever to come through! He's talking a lot...much more clearly than Sawyer ever did at the babbling stage. He says dadada, mamama, gugugu, bababa, and nanana. Sorry, but he really does always say them in threes!!
Here are some pictures of the boys...I've been trying to keep mornings that we don't go for a run pretty busy, so we went and fed horses one morning with Tyler and Sarah, and we went to the library with them yesterday morning, too. They had toddler story time. I think it was a little much for Sawyer with all the loud clapping and "sound effects" (screams) from the lady doing it, but Tyler and Greyson were great! I'm going to make that a more regular thing that we do because he just needs to get used to it, just like everything else.

Sawyer is always hugging Greyson. Sometimes it's more like a tackle or takedown disguised as a hug, but Greyson doesn't always let him take him down!

Riding Thomas!

Pat said that he loved the RR tracks.

Thomas!

This is the ceiling TV I was talking about. Pretty awful.

I think that for Halloween, we're just going to let Sawyer eat ketchup with dinner and let him be the Joker.

Watch and learn, boys!

Sometimes it looks like he's thinking about letting go.

There's a hug.

And another one.

This is what our dining room, now the play room, looks like after Sawyer empties the toy box. Can you find Greyson?

He loves pushing all the buttons on every toy.

The first time they tried out the club house.

Oh my GAH! A pumpkin!! I got them this so that they could play with SOME decoration around the house. It's all so tempting. Sawyer actually broke a little porcelain pumpkin that I really didn't think he could reach. But he could. So I got them this. He held it in his lap the entire time we went through the store. Oh, I use the double stroller as my shopping cart now. It's got a huge basket on the bottom and they're both comfortable and it's easier to steer! It also keeps me from buying stuff I don't need! I've lost 10 pounds! Just kidding.

Sharing Buzz Lightyear, because Greyson likes to chew on him.

They play so well together.

Sorry horse, we're out of apples.

Nice windup...look out horses!!
And no, it wasn't windy. That's just what his hair does.

They didn't seem to mind the apples being hurled at their faces. They just kinda moved out of the way. I guess they're used to it.

I tried to get a picture of him feeding them a carrot, but he kept dropping it when they'd get close.

So one of the nights we were letting Greyson "cry it out", I went in to check on him, and this is what I saw.

Here's a close up. He was biting football Mickey!

That rough housing I was talking about...

Crawling

Playing together in the morning sunshine.

They're everywhere!

Sometimes he's left handed, sometimes he's right handed, but he loves that Magna Doodle!

Sharing some snacks.

Everybody loves the swing set. Best hand-me-down ever! Well, Greyson got a new swing...probably one of four things we've gotten specifically for him since he was born. hahaha
